Women's History Month: Oracle's #HerStoryContest

Objectives

Let me tell you about her story.

Let's give back, pay it forward, and build a community. In honor of Women's History Month in March, we developed the #HerStoryContest to celebrate and share stories of inspirational women who have played a part, big or small, in each of our lives. Mentorship is a fundamental element at Oracle, and it's an initiative that unites and empowers women all around the world. Our goal was to develop a contest that encouraged storytelling and building a positive community for future generations of women leaders

We wanted to create an engaging video series where Oracle executives, Oracle employees, influencers, and students would share a story of a woman who has inspired them in their career or personal life. The #HerStoryContest was built around this video series. To enter the contest, users would post their own story on any social channel and highlight an inspirational woman using the hashtag. They were also required to tag a friend to challenge them to enter the contest.

For the contest prize, we partnered with Girl Geek X, an organization that creates opportunities for women in tech. The prize was a unique Girl Geek X and Oracle t-shirt, illustrating our diverse workforce and female community, awarded weekly to a total of 13 participants. One grand prize winner would win AirPods.

Strategy and Execution

To create momentum throughout the month of March, we produced and published weekly videos on the corporate @Oracle social channels across Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook.

From our CMO, to high school students, to new graduates working at Oracle, we produced 14 video interviews featuring people of all ages celebrating inspirational women across various industries. The video series introduced each speaker with a customized intro slate: "What's #HerStory?" We wanted to pique interest with the viewer and invite them in to learn more about the speaker and his/her story.

We engaged with 3 influencers, Ann Handley, Brian Fanzo, and Katie Martell, to tap into broader audiences, cross-promote, and amplify the contest on their channels.

We chose 3 weekly t-shirt winners, and 1 AirPods winner, for a total of 13 winners. By announcing weekly winners and building on the momentum, we gained more #HerStoryContest participants each week.

An O.com blog was developed to drive traffic to the Oracle site and encourage visitors to learn more about Oracle's culture and careers.
