Objectives

As a Black-owned media company, our mission is to amplify Black voices in a relevant, unapologetic, and empowering way. We aim to inform and have a sustainable impact in each episode of theGrio Daily. Imagine your college professor holding a class in the barbershop. That’s Michael Harriot. Through his series, he breaks it down, real talk, relevant and historical. Michael reminds us that while research may show us that “Race Is Central to Identity for Black Americans,” Michael gives context and explains that race has always been and continues to be about whiteness.

Strategy and Execution

TheGrio Daily is an oral history that tries to explain “How in the world did we get here?” Journalist, author, TV writer, and self-proclaimed WYPIPOLOGIST, a professional who has specialized knowledge in the field of Caucasian culture, including the political, economic, and social habits of white people and their history, breaks it all down with humor and wit.

(Episode 2 - Wypipology 101)

Michael Harriot is known for his wit, strong commentary, and investigative reporting. He creatively explains the systems and issues that affect Black people every day. Everything from white supremacy, police brutality, and the gun problem in America, Michael will break down each system to the very beginning. He does not hold anything back, and he isn't afraid to say the quiet part out loud. Michael's words are more important now than ever.

In the "Why are you so Obsessed with Race" episode, we used the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) model to address the perception that Black people are obsessed with race. Michael Harriot flips the script to ask white Americans the same question.

"The next time you ask me why Black people, or me in particular, are so obsessed with race, the answer is, I'll stop when y'all stop." theGrio Daily continues a series of episodes that answer listeners' frequently asked questions. Michael Harriot starts by addressing the amount of attention and focus on racial labels in American society.
