CNN's Impact Your World

Finalist in News & Media

Objectives

“What can I do to help?”  That’s a question many news consumers ask themselves when reading about a tragedy or crisis. CNN’s “Impact Your World" answers that question and also inspires our audience to act on their altruistic impulses.

Strategy and Execution

CNN Impact Your World runs a dynamic webpage featuring video and text stories. Many of the “how to help” pieces involve breaking news or big topics that are continually unfolding. Other “how to help” stories show CNN’s audience how they can roll up their sleeves and get directly involved with broad issues affecting society, from foster care to mental health.

Impact Your World also features uplifting stories about ordinary people doing great things for others. The goal is to publicize noteworthy projects and motivate viewers to reach for the stars with their own humanitarian work.

Results

Many Impact Your World’s “how to help” stories lead viewers to donation or volunteer opportunities that CNN carefully vets for general effectiveness and financial responsibility. The results are profound and tangible. Over the past year, almost 200 thousand readers contributed more than $1.5 million dollars and countless volunteer hours across 35 “how to help” campaigns.

Whether it’s a “how to help” article or a “trending” piece, all Impact Your World stories appear on the series’ dynamic website, CNN.com/impact. The site reaches almost 650 thousand unique users each month and generates 729 thousand unique monthly page views. Our audience comes away from the website informed, motivated and equipped to make an impact.
