grown-ish: Black Student Union

Entered in Multicultural Community Engagement

Objectives

Grown-ish follows Zoey Johnson as she heads to college and begins her hilarious journey to adulthood. From "black-ish" executive producer, Kenya Barris, comes a contemporary take on the current issues facing both students and administrators in the world of higher education.

Freeform’s primary goal was to further engage the Grown-ish community by providing a central hub embracing college life and the opportunities that come after college.

Strategy and Execution

Celebrating all the worries, excitement, decisions and challenges of college life, Grown-ish: Black Student Union gave viewers and real college students a forum to interact with the cast, and have meaningful discussions of real events that impact college life.

Results

Black Student Union opened up dialog and created an idea exchange where fans and students could learn and grow from a wide range of relevant issues.  Topics included mental health, cancel culture, defining success, social media and activism, self-parenting and many more.
