2017 marked an important milestone in the continued evolution of SYFY. We repositioned ourselves as a genre lifestyle brand, and celebrated our 25th anniversary as a cable channel. Part of our rebrand was aligning ourselves more closely with fan culture and celebrating fandoms of all different types. We set out to give fans of sci-fi, horror and fantasy up close and personal access to luminaries in the space, and more importantly their untold stories. Our 25th anniversary was the perfect platform to launch our original podcast series SYFY25: Origin Stories, hosted by genre superfan Adam Savage.
SYFY25: Origin Stories, is a nostalgic celebration of all things science fiction. In this podcast series Adam sits down with creators, thought-leaders, and celebrity fans to discuss the moments, people, and milestones that have changed the genre universe forever. From revealing personal anecdotes to deep philosophical discussions, there's something for every fan. Guests include genre heavyweights from Chris Hardwick, Frank Oz, and Kevin Smith, to Neil Gaiman, DC Fontana and Ron Moore, among many others. More than anything, this podcast is an invitation to enter the worlds of genre creators.
It was also important for us to capture the energy and excitement that our interviewees displayed in our podcasts across multiple media. In addition to offering the traditional auditory experience of a podcast, we animated 8 vignettes from the podcast that we felt highlighted the wonder and excitement of what it means to be a fan.
The SYFY25: Origin Stories podcast truly encapsulates what SYFY is all about: a love of the genre. It does so with an auditory and visual experience that connects fans with their heroes, which is ultimately what fandom is all about.
