Objectives

Food Network's "In the Kitchen" app is home to over 70,000 trusted recipes from Food Network chefs, shows, and talents. A top recipe app in the food & drink category on the App Store, users can get instant access to the most-popular show recipes from Alton Brown, Giada De Larentiis, Ree Drumond, Bobby Flay, Guy Fieri and many more. Whether you need inspiration for your next meal or you're looking for a recipe that's being made on TV right now, finding delicious recipes from your favorite Food Network chefs and shows has never been this quick and easy.

Strategy and Execution

In September 2017, "In the Kitchen" added an augmented reality experience, exclusively for the iPhone and iPad. Users can now create and decorate virtual cupcakes in their everyday surroundings and experiment with swoops of frosting or a blanket of ganache, some sugar, sprinkles, confetti and even more. The new AR features allow users to share their creation on social and messaging apps and provides recipe inspirations based on what they've designed.

In August, the app was completely redesigned for Android devices, allowing new users to browse through thousands of recipes and videos to make amazing meals for family and friends, discover seasonal recipe collections, easily browse recipes from their favorite Food Network chefs, and more.

In June, the app released a hands-free "Cook With Me" feature that allows users to be able to cook some of their favorite recipes without getting their hands dirty, thanks to Sage, the helpful new recipe assistant. When users open the In the Kitchen app on their iPhones, the "Cook with Me" section will be featured under the main Top Picks section. Once they choose their recipe, Sage will chime in with a quick lesson on how to use the voice commands feature. Users can say "Sage next" and "Sage previous" to move forwards and backwards in the recipe steps, and each step will include a helpful video of the cooking process that viewers can play and use as a guide. At the end, users

will be greeted by confetti and applause from Sage--because it's totally deserved!

In May, the app launched an iMessage extension for iOS devices. Users with the app can simply tap the Applications icon next to the message field and be able to locate the app extension and share recipes with helpful visuals that show a main image, the chef, and the average rating out of 5 stars. Send a few recipes, and your friends can vote for their favorite with a thumbs up or thumbs down for each one. With another tap, you can see a preview image of the whole recipe and the necessary ingredients, helping you plan your meals and shop for ingredients without leaving the conversation. When you're ready to get cooking, you can easily click through to see the full recipe and cooking instructions in the full In the Kitchen app.
